Hello Mr. Customer,
Am writing because of your order for a Pure Pendulum Pure 1 putter through AllGolfShop.com. Initially you had ordered a 31 inch length (by mistake), then changed it to a 35 inch. We can supply either, but I thought it might be useful for you if I pass along a couple of thoughts on what has worked best in the past for many people. For starters, I am assuming that you intend to use the Pure Pendulum method of putting. That is, hands opposite each other, thumbs side by side, putter up the middle of the palm, etc. If this is so, experience shows that the optimum length for the PP is 1.5 to 2 inches shorter than a golfer's normal putter length. The reason for that is that since the putter goes up the middle of the palm (not across the fingers), the putter shaft lies more vertically, not diagonally. That is why the Pure 1 lie is 78 degrees compared to the conventional 74 range. The vertical lie automatically brings the body closer to the ball. (In fact, your eyes are automatically right over the ball.) The main point is that if you intend to use the Pure Pendulum method, you should consider a putter that is 1.5 to 2 inches shorter than your current length.
Another key point that I should mention: the Pure X1 grip was designed so that your hands are positioned in the middle, not the end of the grip. (Don't worry that part of the grip sticks out at the back.) For most people this means that their thumbs are just above (or even touching) the logo on the front of the grip. This hand position is very important for two reasons. One, the grip starts to taper and narrow at one particular point. When you extend your index fingers down the sides of the grip, the middle joint of the fingers should be at this point. Our index fingers are not straight, they curve slightly. When you put the middle joint of your index fingers at this narrowing point, you will discover how snug and comfortable that feeling will be. And you will find that your hands are positioned in the middle of the grip, not the end.
A second reason why your hands should be in the middle has to do with the bevels on the top surface of the grip. These bevels were designed to create a more secure and comfortable feel by making the putter fit better into the fat pads at the base of your thumbs. When the Pure 1 fits properly in this position, it is virtually impossible to break the wrists.
I hope all this doesn't sound too complicated. If you have any questions on any part of this, please feel welcome to email me directly or through AllGolfShop. Please let us know what length putter you ultimately decide on and we'll get it (and the extra grip) out to you ASAP.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Happy putting!
Janis
